
Clayton
Clayton is a small city in Contra Costa County, at the base of Mount Diablo, known for its small-town charm, historic downtown, and access to outdoor recrreation. The town was founded by Joel Clayton in 1857 and became a commercial and industrial center for coal mining. The economy later shifted to farming and ranching before the area developed into a residential community. The city was incorporated in 1964 and is now a suburban community with around 12,000 residents, offering a mix of local shops, restaurants, and community events.
